I think open source foundations should run marketing courses for open source developers as whilst some 'geeks' are great entrepreneurs, many are not entrepreneurial.
You see some Github accounts with 'sponsors needed'/buy me a coffee links and other monetisation encouragement. But most don't.
The people running the repo need to be proactive in nudging people to donate, otherwise it just won't cross peoples minds.
Like those 'donate' messages on Wikipedia we all see.
